Good results at Walter Hayes Trophy - 3rd November 2008

Michael had a great weekend at the Walter Hayes Trophy.

Driving an historic Mallock Mk 9 Formula Ford, Michael took fantastic second overall in the HSCC Open Wheel Race, winning the Historic Formula Ford Trophy in dominant style, coming home only 3 seconds shy of lapping the car second in class!

The battle was somewhat tougher in the Walter Hayes Trophy however. The unique event is open to all Formula Ford 1600 cars whatever the age. With approximately 140 entries this year, taking the fight to the modern day cars was always going to be a big ask but Michael gave it a good go! After qualifying 11th for his heat, Michael finished on the same position ensuring a direct qualification for the semi final.

In very wet and windy conditions Michael started the Semi in 33rd position, after a frantic first couple of laps he had moved up to 26th place, eventually ending the race in 24th. With only the top 17 from each semi final race moving into the final this was the end of the weekend.

"It was a fantastic weekend," said Michael following the weekend, "This is a incredible event and I've always wated to be involved. With this being the 50th Anniversary of Mallock as a constructor it was a perfect opportunity to take part. I think we got alot further than most people expected! It was great to be the most competetive pre 1972 car all weekend, and I hope to be able do some more races with the Mk9 in the future."
